CHAPTER THIRTEEN

Elle

My studio has really taken off. I am so grateful for Benelli getting it for me and for the club doing all that work. I have shoots booked pretty much every day and even some weddings. We haven’t set a date yet but I can’t wait to start planning ours. They have some incredible ideas. I just did one with a fall theme, all the reds, oranges, and golds, it was so beautiful. I wonder what season we should pick? I wonder if bikers do big, ornate weddings? Can I get Benelli in a tux? My mind is all over the place, focus Elle, focus. I have tons of photos to edit before my next shoot comes in.

Coffee, that’s what I need. Benelli kept me up late last night, or should I say I kept him “up”. I run next door to Common Grounds to get my large frozen white chocolate mocha fix and have them put an extra shot in for me, I need the boost. Yes! Caffeine bliss! I get back to the shop and realize I forgot to lock the door, crap!

I open the door to the shop to realize there is someone in there, or at least there was. Some photos I had sitting on the counter are on the floor. Damn, why haven’t I had Benelli get me a gun and teach me to shoot? I slowly back out the way I came and dial him up. “Hey Xena, how’s my girl?”

My words are shaky, “I, I think someone is in the shop, I don’t know. There are pictures on the floor. I went to get coffee and forgot to lock up. I went outside to call you.”

“Fuck! Don’t move, I had to make a run to see Lerch, I’m 3 hour away. I’ll get Justice to come check it out. Do not go back in there! Fuck!” he tells me frantically.

“I’m safe, I’m in the coffee shop next door. It’s probably nothing babe,” I try to calm him down, but I’m still a little jumpy myself.

“I swear when I get back home I’m getting you a gun and you’re learning to shoot!” he says.

I chuckle, trying to continue to make him not as anxious, “I was just saying that to myself. I swear I’m okay.”

“Okay babe, promise me to stay put, I’m going to get off here and call Justice just to be safe,” he says a little bit calmer.

If it was someone trying to hurt me they would have done it when I backed out of the door, right? They would have already come after me, I try to convince myself. I keep an eye out for Justice and for my next client so I can catch them before they enter. I hear a motorcycle and relief starts to wash over me. That is, until I realize it’s not Justice, it’s a Vengeful Demon. I don’t recognize him and luckily; he doesn’t see me but he’s going slow and looking for something, or someone.
